Warren Platner for Knoll Easy Chair *SOLD*
In 1966, Warren Platner and Knoll introduced the world the Platner Collection, capturing “decorative, gentle, graceful” shapes that were beginning to infiltrate the modern vocabulary. The iconic pieces are created by welding hundreds of curved steel rods to circular frames, simultaneously serving as structure and ornament.
The Platner Easy Chair (also commonly referred to as the Throne Chair) is the cream of the crop in regards to Platner pieces. Extremely hard to come by compared to the more common side tables and chairs.
This particular example features Dusty Aqua Blue Velvet Fabric that reminds us of the ocean waters in tropical settings. Foam is in perfect shape with no evidence of dehydration or denting. The upholstery shows very well with a few minor markings as noted in the photos that could likely be lifted off with some gentle cleaning. Nothing that would warrant recovering this masterpiece.
The chrome frames of the chair and ottoman show mild pitting as expected with all vintage Platner pieces which adds a nice patina and history to the chair. Both pieces retain their original plastic floor guard rings which will help protect both the chair and your floors.
If you purchased a new example of this chair and ottoman from Knoll directly you’d be spending $15,000 after taxes and shipping are considered.
