Early Vintage Arne Jacobsen / Fritz Hansen Swan Chair in Cognac Leather
Vintage Swan Chair by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen. Designed in 1958, the swan chair has been one of the most iconic and recognizable from the mid century era. This is an early genearation model as noted by the solid aluminum, fluted base. New production Swan chairs have a, less appealing, round cylinder base.
The base shows vintage patina and has the rare optional height adjustment option, allowing the chair to raise or lower about 3” in height. Meaning this could work as a low lounge chair, or at a desk as an office chair when raised up.
The cognac leather is free of scratches or tears and is buttery soft to the touch, wrinkles and creasing in the seat as expected with any used leather chair as pictured. Foam is not dehydrated or compromised in any way. This chair has decades of life still ahead of it.
The chair swivels like a dream with absolutely no sticking or grinding.
A new production Swan chair from Fritz Hansen would cost you $10,000 in leather if purchased at Design Within Reach today.
Foil Fritz Hansen label retained on underside of of chair.
