Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin Model #2165 Rosewood Sofa

This stunning case/tuxedo sofa was designed by Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin and features the most highly figured Rosewood we have seen. I mean just look at it. It's almost like you're looking at a Rorschach Inkblot, you know that thing you learned about in your college Psychology class.

Before we get to this sofa, let me educate you on how you can AUTHENTICATE that this is in fact a true Baughman case sofa, as opposed to all the other case sofas many dealers have listed as Baughman, when they in fact, aren't.

Besides the obvious label on the Sofa indicating this is a Thayer Coggin piece, the sofa retains it's original clasps where the sofa back meets the seat bottom. These clasps attach to the sofa cushions, thus preventing them from sliding off.

Another key feature of a true Baughman sofa is the legs. They should be top to bottom metal. A case sofa produced by Jydsk Mobelfabrik of Denmark, has similar legs but the very bottom of the feet are capped in a teak or walnut trim. If you see a sofa with teak or rosewood on the metal legs, it's not Baughman. Another giveaway is the detail of the grain. If the sofa has a more bland, or typical grain pattern, on the casing it is likely a replica by Komfort or Jydsk. If the grain pattern is highly figured like this piece, then it is probably a designer piece.

Okay, now that you have some background lets talk more about this sexy sofa. The rosewood casing is in very good condition with minimal markings or blemishes. I'm not entirely sure how a sofa with this much exposed wood has survived 50 years with very litle signs of use.

The six chrome legs are original and very sturdy.

The upholstery that is attached to the sofa (behind and under the cushions) is original (which is a good thing and the reason why the sofa retains it's original manufacturing label). This upholstery shows signs of heavy use and could be replaced if you like, although its barely visible as the sofa cushions conceal 90% of this.

The cushions themselves are true-to-era, high grade, thick, black naugahyde. They are all zippered. They are in very good condition.

This sofa is heavy, upwards of 200 pounds and rock solid.

No other piece of furniture in your home will command the attention this sofa does. It's a true show stopper and the perfect blend between furniture and art.
